President Muhammadu Buhari has already sent a congratulatory message to the pastor praising his relentless efforts, sacrifices and the grace of God upon the life of the general overseer, who has over the years propagated the gospel around the world, organized large gathering of Christian worshipers and consistently counseled world leaders and different citizens on how to live right before God. Adeboye certainly has a rich life experience, having come a long way from a boy born in a humble Christian family to being the general overseer of one of the most popular churches in the world. Enoch Adejare Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942 in Ifewara, Osun state, into a family with strict Christian upbringing. He often humorously says that his family was so poor that even the poor people called them poor. 2. He never owned shoes until he was eighteen years old. However, he possessed physical intangibles such as focus, consistency, diligence, ambition, a brilliant mind and a determination to succeed in life. 3. In 1956, Adeboye was admitted into Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun state, and as a youth he discovered a passion for books, and an aptitude for science and in particular the field of Mathematics. In 1967, Adeboye graduated from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu state, with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics. Between 1967 and 1975, he added two more degrees to his qualification – a Masters Degree in hydrodynamics and a Doctorate Degree in Applied Mathematics, both from the University of Lagos. 5. One of the motivations for these academic achievements was Adeboye’s passionate desire to become the youngest Vice Chancellor of any one of the frontline universities in Nigeria. 6. He lectured at the University of Lagos and University of Ilorin. Before he became a Mathematics lecturer in these universities, Adeboye taught at two different secondary schools – Okeigbo Grammar School, Okeigbo, near Ondo, and the Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos. Pastor Adeboye or Daddy G.O. as he’s fondly called became RCCG’s General Overseer in 1981. Since then, RCCG has spread worldwide with over 12,000 churches in over 120 nations. 9. He has received several degrees and national merit awards. On January 5, 2009 Newsweek Elite had listed Adeboye as as one of the Fifty Most Influential People In The World. 10.
