Biafra: MASSOB gives FG new condition

Biafra: MASSOB gives FG new condition

– MASSOB gives Federal Government new condition for peace
– MASSOB threatens to shutdown of socio-economic activities in the region and beyond
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has given new condition to the Federal Government.
Biafra agitators threaten to shut down social-economic activities in the country.
The pro-Biafra group in a statement issued by its director of information, Samuel Edeson on Thursday, February 4 in Enugu state, told the federal government to immediately conduct a general vote by the electorate in the South East geopolitical zone on the single political question.
Vanguard reports that the group said the referendum would act as a forerunner to secession or the government should embrace a total shutdown of socio-economic activities in the region and others.
MASSOB threatened to use all its power to make Nigeria ungovernable if the federal government refused to adhere to its demand.
Parts of the statement read: “We shall use everything at our disposal to fight Nigeria Government especially through civil disobedience.
“We are going to call for sit at home in all Biafra land and Lagos. MASSOB will drag former president Olusegun Obasanjo to the International Crime Court, ICC, for all the atrocities he committed against Biafra since 1970.
“The massacre of Odi people, the Tiv, Jukum and the massacre of MASSOB members in Aba, Okigwe and Onitsha including the killing of six Igbo traders in Apo, Abuja. MASSOB will be taking her campaign to United States of America, United Kingdom, France and China embassies in Abuja. MASSOB therefore calls on all people of old eastern region, Delta, parts of Kogi and parts of Benue States to support the referendum that would soon take place in Biafraland. Our freedom is nonnegotiable.”
The group’s recent threat obviously contradicts the stance of Solomon Chukwu, one of the leaders of MASSOB who expressed optimism that  He gave the assurance while condemning the violence and killings that accompanied the last protest. He urged the government to release the detained IPOB leader and Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu.
Meanwhile, MASSOB agitation has received widespread condemnation from well meaning Nigerians both at home and abroad. Just recently, a former candidate of the Delta state House of Assembly, noting that there could have been a better approach instead of the violent status the pro-Biafra agitation had degenerated to. He advised the federal government and the pro-Biafra groups to dialogue.
