Mayor Of Toronto Awards Drake With The Key To The City

Mayor Of Toronto Awards Drake With The Key To The City

"This is one of the greatest moments of my life, if not the greatest."

UPDATE (2/12/16 8:17 PM): The key was placed in Drake's hands today before the celebrity all-star game at the Air Canada Centre, the home of NBA All-Star Weekend 2016. Drake was already suited up, as he would proceed to coach the Canadian celeb team after being presented with the key to his hometown.
Upon receiving the key, Drake said, "This is one of the greatest moments of my life, if not the greatest."
Though Drake's humbled words suggest that he has retracted certain lyrics from his new single, "Summer Sixteen," Toronto Mayor John Tory has confirmed he will not let Drizzy pass the key on to Lil Wayne. Check out photos of Mayor Tory and Drake below.

Tomorrow, John Tory, the current mayor of Toronto, will present Drake with the key to the city. He made the announcement today via a video post on Twitter, in which he explained why the OVO rapper is worthy of "the highest honor we can give."

"When we give out the key to the city, we want it to be something really special," Tory said to begin his announcement.
"I believe the key should go to individuals who make people across the city feel good about themselves and about their city. It should make us proud of who we are and what we can achieve. I want these moments to inspire us, as a city, and to send a real message: Toronto can do great things."
Clearly the mayor believes Drake has instilled the above message within his fellow Torontonians, as does Toronto city councillor Norm Kelly, who has become something of a Twitter celebrity with his meme-ready support of Drake (and rampant agitation of Meek).

It just so happens that Drake anticipated this very event with his new single, "Summer Sixteen," on which he raps, "I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne / Or give it to one of the young boys to carry the wave." Perhaps Mayor Tory should rethink his decision?
Congratulations to Drake. He's already anointed himself the "6 God," and clearly, Toronto's politicians are treating him as such.
