A team of medical doctors have carried out heart surgeries on five patients at the St Joseph hospital in Adazi Nnukwu, Aniocha local government area of Anambra state.
The Vanguard reports that the the team of US-based doctors were led by an indigene of the state, Dr Joe Nwiloh in partnership with the state government and the Catholic diocese of Awka.
The five patients operated on were four adults and a child, all with various degrees of heart complications.
The state commissioner for information, culture and tourism, Dr Uju Nwogu said that the operation was made possible with the use of sophisticated state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and mechanical support which the center has for all heart-related ailments.
According to her, the Adazi Nnukwu hospital has become very popular in the area of heart surgery as many people go there for routine checks and consultations.
Nwogu also called on philanthropic individuals and corporate organizations to contribute to the growth of the center by assisting in acquiring a cardiac catheterization laboratory to enable it complete its diagnostic capabilities.
