Fast rising Nigerian comedian Stanley Chibuna popularly known as Funnybone in an exclusive interview with Naij.com, speaks on his upcoming show ‘Funnybone Untamed’, his expectations, celebrities to thrill the audience and his journey in to the comedy industry.
So how are you getting ready for your upcoming shows?
Funnybone untamed is my first show here in Lagos. And we are working round the circles to ensure it comes out well. I think so far, I would say we are 70% ready and I can assure you categorically that before February 21, we will be 100% ready.
Okay, what are some of the things that we should expect?
It’s my first show, so expect to see me do my things my way, take more time on stage, express myself to my audience and to my people. You should expect to see me do my natural thing without being under pressure to leave the stage, expect to see me being unique, different and to be creative.
Are you going to thrill the audience with a comedy skits or it is going to be music and comedy all through?
There is a plan on the way for a skit but I hope we achieve it before the show or if we cannot get the skit done we will stick to having a quality show not just comedy as quality comedians will come on stage to exhibit their great talents.
So who and who should we expect?
For the comedians expect to have a lovely time with Seyi Law, Bovi, Ali Baba, Gordons, Daniel, Humorous, Senators, Shakara, Whalemouth, Romeo and a host of them. For musicial performances, expect to see Olamide, M.I, Kcee, Iyanya, Tekno, Oritsefemi, Solidstar, Humblesmith, Reminisce, Ice-Prince, Jesse-Jagz, among others.
Looking at the quality of the kind of music artiste you are bringing in on stage for a maiden edition, how were you able to pull all of them together?
Well, i have been close to a lot of them in the industry for a while and I am opportuned for them to have my interest at heart. They are basically coming on board to show me love and to ensure that we have a memorable show. Also, our host for the night will be Nollywood actor and model I.K Ogbonna and actress Adunni Ade. So it is a whole package of fun time and trust me, you won’t want to miss this show for anything.
How would you rate your career over the years?
For me it’s forward ever, backward never, being the fact that I delved into comedy fully after having completed my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in 2012 and since then I think I have done well for myself. However, there is still much work to be done but I know I will get there because we will keep getting better. The Funnybone brand is getting bigger and better by the day, so I thank God.
It makes me feel good because I have worked so hard to be here. Also, I have been in this game for as long time because I had to go to school along the way. I feel good about it but it also calls for more hardwork because the more you are known, the more you are rated, the more you are under pressure to be creative and be on top of your game each time you go on stage. So I pray for Grace and I pray for understanding and wisdom to continue doing my thing with the best of my ability.
So how much was your first pay?
My first fee as a comedian was between N100 to N200 for a departmental show while I was in University.
