Senator Shehu Sani, the chairman of Senate committee on foreign and domestic debts has frowned at how $3billion has been reportedly wasted in the quest to find oil in the northern part of the country.

Sani called on President Muhammadu Buhari to initial a full scale investigation into the alleged wastage of public fund.
The senator bears his mind on this issue when members of Kaduna State Students Union paid him a courtesy visit at his Kaduna’s office on Monday, February 8.

He urged Buhari to set up an investigative panel that will look at attempt to find oil in the north saying that the probe should not be limited to the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan but extended to other past governments.
Leadership reported that the lawmaker insisted that the effort of searching for oil in the region was needless following statement recently made by the Northern Nigeria Development Company  that it would commence the exploration of oil and gas in the northeast part of the country in the first quarter of this year.
Senator Sani said: “If we cannot oil, we must get our money back because so far over $3bn had been wasted on oil exploration in the north, particularly in the Chad Basin and Benue trough.

“This oil exploration issue started from late General Sani Abacha regime, and many years after his death, no oil is found in the region.
“I blame our northern leaders who in collaboration with their southern counterparts improvised the north.
Meanwhile, in response to the dwindling oil revenue, Senate president, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had called on Nigerians from both private and public sectors of the economy .
